Honestly, that loss made no sense. The only thing I can figure is that Ayo really wasn’t the same after his injury.
The only other variable was tournament experience. Loyola had been there. Illinois hadn’t. We tried to play to our strengths because you have to do that when you have two All-Americans. They blitzed both guys and the rest of the team had no answers.
The only other thought is that Loyola is a very good team. They have a path to the Final Four. Maybe they win it all. Maybe the story isn’t about us. We were the villain, the obstacle, in someone else’s story.
I’ve got nothing. Just baffled. Spring is here and I’ll always be grateful to this team for getting me through the winter of COVID.
