House of Horrors
Not gonna lie - my immediate post game mood was pretty dark. Three consecutive losses here at Welsh-Ryan Arena - including the last two in overtime - will get you there pretty quick.
I was ready to attack my keyboard with all manner of rage and fury as I contemplated a post-game article made up solely of bullet points highlighting the multitude of ways in which my basketball sensibilities were offended by tonight’s 70-66 loss.
Brad Underwood said nothing much in his post-game press conference to soothe my angst. In fact, his mood seemed quite aligned with mine. He was predictably grumpy - specifically lamenting his team’s performance in two of his non-negotiable benchmarks: offensive rebounding and making layups.
His offense this season to date is reliant on three primary components: three point shooting; points at the rim, and second chance opportunities via offensive rebounding.
Tonight: 26% from three (9-26); just four second chance points; and nine missed layups. Yuck. If we get even two of those three components clicking on a given night, I like our chances. But if you get none of those three? Well then good luck.
