Chicago State is quite simply one of the worst teams in college basketball. This is evident by record - they are one of only three winless teams in D-1 college hoops (Jackson State, Canisius, and Alcorn State are the others), and this is evident by metrics - they sit 361st out of 364 teams in the KenPom rankings. If this was the English Premier League the Cougars would be relegated to NAIA. This game was strategically scheduled as a mere tune-up to keep this team sharp heading into conference play. A cupcake is always served in this post-Christmas schedule spot, but considering we aren’t that far removed from that 2019 loss to Florida Atlantic in this same spot on the schedule, a 53 point win tasted just fine thank you very much.
