I figure it's time to try some things. Some will work, some won't. The thing I'm trying today: recording a Zoom call. My family did Easter via Zoom call on Sunday, and while participating on that call I had the idea that maybe I could record one while talking football. So I texted Martin and asked him to join me this evening. He obliged.

Now, it wouldn't be me without some hiccups. I intended to record the call in "gallery mode". If you've seen some recorded Zoom calls lately, they're in gallery mode, meaning you can see everyone participating. It.. did not record in gallery mode. So the screen will switch back and forth between my screen and Martin's screen. I watched a little of it - it gets annoying.

And the sound is awful. Right now you're probably thinking "it can't be that bad", but it's that bad. Next time I'll record with a mic or headphones or something because Martin's audio is at 4.4 and my audio is at 11. I should have done a test call to work out all these issues BEFORE publishing it on the site, but of course I didn't do that.

So if you're desperate for Illini content and are willing to put up with me yelling and can stomach the screen switching from Martin to me and back to Martin, well, here you go. Embarrassing myself yet again, this time on video.

Dang, I just realized the whole country is going to be blaming Illinois if the season is cancelled. It is a well established fact that we cannot have nice things, and we are on track to have a nice thing this fall. Clearly the niceness of what these players can do has triggered the supernatural "Illinois Rule", and the pandemic was the easiest path to not letting it happen.

I can't remember the philosopher, but they describe a seemingly idylic village where abundance and happiness reigns, but later reveals that to maintain those conditions requires balance, so an innocent child must be bound to a chair and continuously subjected to all manner of horror.

In CFB, Illinois is that child. The season surely is doomed.

It’s “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas,” by Ursula K. LeGuin.

Brilliant story.

Thanks for the citation. I figured the readers here would know it. Nice work.

Thanks to both of you, good listen.

Hobby: Sky Diving, Synchronized Swimming, maybe some days as a living statue on Green

CFB will be played this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see game schedule not change. There will be continued recommendations for elderly and people at risk to social distance but the “herd” will be left to roam soon....at least I hope so. My children are now passing around a conch.
