I have a very long story to tell. But that will come in the next post. And it will probably take me at least four hours to write it. AND, I still have a two hour drive to my hotel (between here and Kansas City). So maybe check back for that one in the morning.

For now, here's From The Stands.

Any acrid reaction, which I myself had, was in response to this being a winnable game against a highly ranked rival. In the macro, yes, progress is being made. In the moment though, damn if I don’t sound like Beckman but take away the pick-six and 100-yard KO return and you have the W.

Exactly my feelings. Ugh.

Thank you. The long term perspective helps. For those of us listening to horrible announcing, and watching the great Illini start negated by a kickoff return enabled by one on the most atrocious missed holding calls I have ever seen, this helps.

Nailed it, Robert. Halfway through the 4th I said to my wife how happy I was to be stressing and hollering over a mid-November road game vs a ranked team that we were competitive against. Count me in for the “just happy to be here” crowd in year one. Better days are ahead-maybe next year, maybe the year after. But definitely coming. Go Illini!

It is remarkable to be watching Illinois football competing with ranked Big Ten teams on November 20th. This defense is legit. Not because of some one-year talent surge but because they are executing a quality scheme. Amazing for Illinois football. The offense has some obvious problems but it’s so glaring that you know it will get addressed in the off-season. The running game mostly works. We even went for it on 4th and 3 which was the proper decision. So that defuses some of my concerns from earlier losses. Progress.
