The Worst Game I've Ever Covered

The Worst Game I've Ever Covered

...and I was at Iowa 63, Illinois 0.

Look at all of those people wearing orange. I zoomed in to just get a picture of two sections in the lower bowl from the Illinois end but there were many more Illini fans there, both in the lower and upper decks. Each and every one of those people paid, at a minimum, $160 for those lower bowl seats. And that's if they got them in the presale. If they bought them on the secondary market, many of them paid $200, $300 per seat.

Pick out a familly of four in that photo. They might have paid $1,000 just to sit there. And then there's hotel rooms and flights and everything else. It's hard to remember a single Illini event since the 2007 Rose Bowl that put that much debt on that many credit cards. These fans invested tonight.

And they were repaid with that. 110-67. Duke fans are the type that point and laugh, and they were laughing laughing. And why wouldn't they? We lost by FORTY THREE POINTS. We were 2 for 26 from three and Duke's 5'-7" walkon was 1-1. The Blue Devils went deep into their bench in the final ten minutes – the "fourth quarter" – and those players outscored us 29-18.
